Coming soon to an iDevice near you is a new genre of game. Surveillant from game creator Martin Wheeler is truly something built from the ground up with the iPhone’s capabilities in mind. We’ve played just about every kind of game genre known to man on the iPhone. Driving, shooter, social, action, rpg, rts, casual word games and everything in between..all of them, and even after all of the different game styles within the iTunes App Store, we’ve yet to play or even see anything close to what Surveillant will bring to the platform.

We’ve been in contact with Recluse Industries Martin Wheeler since the beginning, approximately a year ago. We’ll be having a full detailed review in the coming weeks after we put some real time into Surveillant. The concept of Surveillant is like nothing you’ve played before and has the potential to be an instant classic. We haven’t received the game yet but if what we do know so far from Martin, it’s almost a sure winner in our eyes here at Old School Junkie.
Here’s a little snippet from the official Press Release:
The challenge is simple: Can you reach the CCTV Camera without being seen? The player has no weapons and the only way to defeat the laser-armed surveillance system is to stay hidden as you explore thestarkly lit 3D landscapes.
With a minimalist design ethic (the game even omits the obligatory player score) each level is a purely spatial challenge, the tension heightened by the threat of being spotted by the CCTV Camera that scans the landscape with a crimson laser.
With headphones on, the sensation of heat as the beam passes overhead is electric enough to raise hairs on the back of your neck.
Being spotted causes the iPhone to vibrate and emits a shriek of alarm from the CCTV Camera.
Ten levels of tense, retro-inspired game play, intuitive controls, stylish visuals, and atmospheric audio, Surveillant is a bold and accomplished proof of concept and marks the birth of a new, albeit distant star in the mobile gaming sky.

As you can tell, Surveillant has some big expectations from those of us in the loop. But, if our feelings are correct, this will be the game being mentioned on everyone’s top Indie games of 2011.
