Retro G.P. Featuring the Panasonic 3DO Version Of GEX

The name GEX is a title name that I’ve seen for many many years, but, have never gave it a purchase. I’m no expert, but from what I can recall GEX was released on multiple home consoles and was even being produced for the 3D market on N64. The first time I played GEX was on the N64, hence the reason for my dislike for the series.

Recently OSJ has added the under appreciated 32-Bit powerhouse Panasonic R*E*A*L 3DO home game console. While the console is not known for it’s games, the 3DO did have quit an extensive library with a high percentage of the games being solid to superior ports from the PC and other consoles.
One game that has captured my retro heart is the first in the GEX series. I’m not going to get into the pros and cons of the title. What I want to showcase is the simple but challenging game play, visual effects and audio.
Simply put, GEX is a fun ass game. You have to collect a remote control from every level to power on another TV/Environment portal in your quest to get back home all while collecting the golden bugs (coins like Sonic The Hedgehog) found throughout the game levels.

Your a gecko? I think? Some kind of amphibian is my guess. Your able to whip the enemies with your tail and/or jump down on them while making sure your tail is coiled below you to bounce on their heads. My favorite ability is being able to cling to the ceiling, walls and even the background walls which you can always tail whip and tongue grab from any angle. Great game play to say the least.

You know what? Check out the video below and you see for yourself, the one think that I want you to walk away from is knowing that even though there were many great platformers back in the 90′s, not many gamers got to play GEX, which is a shame since it is a high quality and FUN adventure platform title.

SPECIAL THANKS:
Today’s Retro G.P. was possible due to the donation of GEX for the 3DO.
Old School Junkie would like to extend our sincerest thanks to Torrence Davis the Founder and Editor In Chief over at TheBitbag for sending in GEX as well as a few more 3DO titles.

KEEP IT RETRO..!
