Retro G.P. Featuring Valis III On The Sega Genesis

Welcome back to OSJ…! Today we finally gave into the fact that Christmas has pasted and the New Year is upon us. We had to bust out the ole’ capture hardware and get to playing some awesome retro games to showcase the finer gems of our gaming past. Let’s take a look at today’s game Valis III for the Sega Genesis.

Valis III is a great game that comes from a franchise that has for some reason fallen to back side of the retro collection and in the minds of most gamers. It seems like almost every other day, there’s a new remake of a retro game on mobile or as a downloadable game on current generation consoles. I would love to see a new Valis game with an all new story, game play and visual effects. I wouldn’t want to pay for a rehash nor some port that is unscaled to HD with some ugly filter to make things all smooth.

Let me not get off track here.

Valis III is one of my favorites in the series. Fortunately the first time I played this game was on the Turbografx-16 CD attachment and if we had the TurboCD in-house it would’ve been the version of choice. The great thing to remember is that the Genesis version is actually a great port which featured some great colors, soundtrack and tight game play with some cool game cinematics.
From what I’ve seen during my time with Valis III on the Genesis, the entire game is identical to the TurboCD title but is missing the true CD audio and voice over cut scenes. There are a few objects and details in the background that looked a bit better on the TurboCD version but nothing at all to make you not enjoy this great game on the Sega Genesis.
