Today Nintendo announced during it’s Wii U Direct broadcast that the new and improved Virtual Console is on it’s way to the Wii U. To start off the celebration Nintendo has released a title from the NES 8-Bit era, the title at hand is Balloon Fight.
It truly captures the classic game play and visuals perfectly for today’s HD televisions.
I didn’t setup the capture card so I grabbed the ole’ trusty HD cam and grabbed a little bit of footage in an effort to give you a glimpse of what to expect.

Hello friends, Social Gamer here with another overview. To be real honest right off the bat, the iOS App Store is chuck full of endless runner games. Today I’ll be talking about a bit about an Indie iOS title that has a high level of quality not normally found in an Indie game. The game I’m referring to is Time Surfer from independent developer Kumobius.
That being said, it doesn’t mean that a well thought out and polished game that would typically fall under the “endless running” umbrella isn’t worth taking a look at. There’s always room for good and high quality games, no matter the genre.
That’s where I bring in Time Surfer, currently available on the iOS App Store for a bargain bin price of 99¢ you’ll also have the option to make small in-App purchases if you so desire a little help in unlocking all of the extra goodies found within the game. Time Surfer is developed by Kumobius and their very talented team which if you’ve played their previous game Bean’s Quest which is available on both iOS and Android you see the same level of care was taken with Time Surfer as with Bean Quest. So go check that game out if you love classic platformer gaming.
Now let me talk a bit about Time Surfer. Like I mentioned a second ago Time Surfer is an endless running game. The thing is, that it’s not your standard run of the mill runner. When you launch the game your brought to the game play demo screen which gives you a sample of the games visuals. You’re presented with your rank level, time capsule treasure chest (in game shop and stats information), your earned cake (game currency), your best run time and the play button.
From the opening screen you can swipe to the right once and your brought to the options screen.
Swipe to the right again and you’ll see two boxes one will bring you to Kumobius’s other game Bean’s Quest and the other allows you to gift Time Surfer.
When your at the main screen you can also swipe once to the left to go to the Hell Zone level.
Those are the basics and upfront options available upon launching Time Surfer. The game play is simple, all you really have to use are two “touch” buttons. On the bottom left of the screen you have the time reverse hourglass. You use this button for the not so happy endings where you can reverse your stream in an attempt to change your previous direction decision that caused your demise.
On the lower right hand corner you have the main button. With a press of the button your going to be forcing your character downward as if pulling you down to the surface by gravity. This action is a much needed mechanic as you’ll need to time your slide to when your going down a slope to gain momentum.
With that, I bring you the rest of this review via the video below with game play and a bit of commentary to help give you a much better idea of how Time Surfer differs from other endless runner types.
Here at Old School Junkie we love to support the Indie Game Development scene when given the opportunity. Not only does the gaming industry as a whole need independent developers to push ideas forward but they are also the teams that have the ability to take risks unlike the big corporations.
Help us help the Indie scene buy purchasing Time Surfer, it’s well worth your buck. Below we’ll leave all of the links to Kumobius and their social networks so if you do drop them a line, tell’em Old School Junkie sent you.
Keep It Retro…!
It’s been a while since I talked a bit about some of the class games in my collection. This isn’t one of those videos. But, what I do have a quick overview (as I like to call my reviews) of the classic horizontal shoot’em ups, Blazing Star for the Neo Geo from SNKPlaymore.
Of course this is the game port for Android as the title says. During the holiday season all of SNKPlaymore’s games went on sale for 99 cents. I knew that I’d have to purchase at least one of only a handful of Neo Geo games officially released by SNKPlaymore on the Google Play Store.
The game I purchased was Blazing Star. It really does have a good amount of content for a space side shooter. You get pixel perfect visuals, crisp sound effects and music with the added bonus of a two player options via two devices and a Bluetooth connection.

Happy New Year…!
In this quick and short video post. I wanted to archive the Sega Genesis exclusive Action Adventure and Platformer Mystic Defender.
Not only did Mystic Defender have a great soundtrack and sound effects, but, it also showcased the potential power of the Genesis during the early age of the 16-Bit console wars.
There’s not much to see within the actual Opening Introduction so I’ve also included a quick game play demo that would randomly run while the console was powered on.
Enjoy this first of many “Retro Vidcasts” to come in 2013 found on OldSchoolJunnkie.com….!
